Among the most recent accusations in the online poker environment, the license of the online casino dubbed Full Tilt has been revoked by the AGCC. The license of Full Tilt seems to have been revoked mostly due to the so called ‘Ponzi scheme‘ uncovered by the officials conducting the investigation. However, a number of other frauds have also led to the prosecution of the leadership board from major online casinos. Sadly, this revelation could have not come at a worst time, as the PPA and other advocates of the online poker legalization were fairly close to getting the bill passed.
However, the opinion of a vast portion of the general public who – up to that point – sustained the passing of online poker among the registered games in America has shifted one hundred and eighty degrees. To make matters worse, the fraudulent income of Full Tilt discovered by the AGCC reached the astounding sum of 440 millions of dollars. It is fair to say that this is not pocket change, especially since the estimated total income invested by online poker players revolves around six billion dollars. While a lower sum could have been overlooked easier, the level of this fraud made front page news all across America and those who down-talked the online poker industry had an unexpected powerful argument in their favor.
On the other hand, there are still those committed to making the online gambling industry legal and that have kept their opinions un-bended even in this situation. In essence, the advocates of online poker legalization do not deny the evidence, but their perspective on the facts and the proper course of action is the complete opposite. In order to make an educated decision regarding which party has the most compelling arguments, here is how the sustainers of legalized gambling view this unfortunate history.
First of all, regardless of the scandals, those who love online poker and practise it on a constant basis will continue to do so even though they may be risking a fine or being cheated on by the casino. Keep in mind that poker is an immensely popular game across the entire world and not just in America. However, with the major online gambling corporations shut down, the players will have to turn their attention to smaller companies, preferably ones that present enhanced security benefits. In essence, the license revocation for Full Tilt and other casinos only entails a change in the provider.
Furthermore, those who sustain the legalization of online poker consider that this course of actions will not only be very beneficial for the funds of the country via the taxes, but will also create a substantial amount of well paid jobs in a context where unemployment is constantly rising. On a side note, the officials appointed by the president to fix the current economical crisis and overwhelming debt have all suggested the legalization of online poker. Granted, the regulatory commissions will need to keep a close eye on the income of the online casinos and their practices in order to avoid further scandals like these one, but that is a small price to pay compared to the benefits.
In essence, on one side you have the members of the public that are hell bent on completely shutting down online poker providers while on the other, you have those that consider this industry could be made to work in a regulated legal environment. Whichever the decision of the congress and government regarding this subject may be, it is fair to say that the scandals did not have a positive impact on the sustainers of legalized online gambling.
